Adopting a Rescue Dog Course - 4 sessions

This course is designed to walk you and your new family member through the first few weeks of this special, but sometimes challenging, time.

I will give you the tools, techniques and support, to navigate your way through these settling in weeks.

Rescuing a dog and giving it a new home and family is a fantastic thing to do. There are so many dogs in rescue and they all deserve a loving home and family.

When you rescue a dog, there are lots of emotional attachments that, understandably, go along with this.

If this is a first time rescue, the biggest one is probably that you are giving a lost soul a new beginning, a new chance at happiness and it's all wonderful. The dog is going to be so happy to have cuddles and a soft bed, lots of adventures and new friends to play with. You are going to give that dog all the opportunities they haven't had.

There may also be a sense of feeling sorry for your new companion. They may have had a less than fun time before. They've had to live in kennels. They've been mistreated.

So how do we make their new homes the perfect place for them to begin their new lives?

Rescue dogs can take a lot longer to settle than we imagine.

They often need space and time to 'move in'.

They may come with behavioural issues that need to be worked through.

They may never have lived in a 'home' environment before.

They may have come from a loving home, lost their person and are still grieving. Yes, dogs grieve too in their own way.

They usually need a lot more support than we think they do.

It can be challenging at times - rescuers are special folk!

It is also the most rewarding gift - both for the dog and their new people.

So here are 4 very important steps to take to ensure that you give your rescue dog the best beginning, the right environment and a chance to live their best lives.
